Possibility of using torrents for the repository

Postby The Freezer » Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:50 pm

Testing out a new file-locker/torrent seeder service called Netkups. Torrent downloads are free and have no limits. From their FAQ:
Torrent is virtually free for us, because pieces are shared between users, while we make sure the file does not die, as long as we have a copy. That's why torrent downloads don't have any limit.

Maximum upload file-size is 1 GB -- which is plenty for a single .apz, I should think. Still testing though to see what the total account storage size is, if any.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

Cool! Expands on my idea of using a private Torrent for you, Ghost, Trouba, c0d3, pacav, me, LFD (?), and anyone else appropriate as a backup for the FTP space and still get decent overall speed.

Cheers and Regards

Hmmm now we have a new ssWPI nearly complete, it may be time to see about a non central repository like this being added to it. I hadn't read this before and it's over a year old, guess I should socialize more :D

Here's another new player from the makers of torrent-tech themselves: BitTorrent Sync

Looks promising. I would love to see a way that ssWPI could somehow adapt to this.

It creates local folders so perhaps ssWPI can take advantage. Not sure if it would be practical; but I agree, this one is showing the most promise.

Anyway, I created an ssApp -- a ppApp just wasn't going to happen :( -- and am already sharing the entire library using the "read-only" secret for public access. The master secret can be used by the administrators or team to delete files from the sync swarm or vet new ones into it.

So far, color me impressed. :YMCOWBOY:
