The Pirate Bay Launches Free VPN

The Pirate Bay team is going to be making the MAFIAA angry, with the launch of a new ad-supported VPN service. PrivitizeVPN is available for free from The Pirate Bay. Instead of earning revenue through subscription as iPredator does, PrivitizeVPN comes packaged to install the Babylon Search Toolbar adware.

Note: This ssApp-package does NOT install the adware.

PrivitizeVPN gives you an encrypted tunnel and changes your public IP to an anonymous one. How does it work? It simply exchanges the IP address you get from your ISP for an anonymous IP address; and you get a safe/encrypted connection between your computer and the Internet.

The Pirate Bay staff has a long history of promoting services that have no logs; e.g. , you can't get in trouble if your anonymized IP is subpoenaed by government officials. Although PrivitizeVPN is being released silently, with no press coverage, no official statement, and no comments from The Pirate Bay of any kind, people are assuming that PrivitizeVPN will have the same familiar data protection policies.

A backup download location has been setup for people who have limited access to the Pirate Bay domain.

Thanks for finding and posting this Freezer. Please let us know your experiences with this after using it for a few days. Worth keeping on at all times? If not, when is it better not to use it? etc. If nothing else it could be quite useful exploring torrent links from isohunt that are currently censored for US locations, if the IP's location can be optionally set?

For sure the browsing part works but there's a city library (south of me) that censors quite heavily: there's a bunch of legitimate sites that are "verboten" to visit (for example, TorrentFreak which is a news site) -- yeah, ironic, it's a library. They also block apps such as instant messengers, FTP, remote-admin, and peer-to-peer (which that last one I might understand, at least). So I'm curious what all I can do with connections like this there.

But I still have to figure out how to get those apps to work with it. As pointed out above, it comes with no instructions. I am guessing that it's actually a free-version of iPredator so maybe there are how-to instructions to be had from the Pirate Bay...

Wow, guess not. They apparently block ALL ports including any VPN pass-throughs; which many consider to be bad-manners on the part of any provider to block those because of various attacks on wifi connections that VPN shields user from -- not to mention that some connect to work via VPN...

Thanks for checking anyway. I'm curious if they also block the search engine cached links. Ie if you have Google search for links for a site, after it pulls up the summary page, try to pull up the cached link for a site that would ordinarily be blocked. Since that feed will come from Google, not directly from the site in question, that might pull up. At least I know it used to be that way, but libraries have complained that folks would use tricks like that to pull up porn with little kids walking behind them, so the search engines might have changed things, I don't know.
